The Jokes on You

Each year on April 1st the battle of practical jokes begins. From saran wrap on the toilet seat, to silly string and plastic snakes in the bed, my family has always participated in America's day of humor and harmless fun, and this year was no exception. On Sunday April 1, 2007, I woke up expecting today to be like any other day, since I no longer live with my family, believing I was free from their trickery. I went about my daily routine until around one in the afternoon when I was to meet my friend for lunch. I walked down to the garage, but where I thought I had parked my car last another car was in its place. At first I assumed I had simply forgotten where exactly I had parked it in the parking garage structure, but after thoroughly searching both levels I began to panic. I called my roommate, to see if she had borrowed my car and parked it somewhere else, but I had no luck there either. After an hour of searching the parking garage I tracked down campus security, hoping they might be of some help. After another hour of driving around with Campus Security I finally came to the realization that perhaps it might be stolen. I could not understand why anyone would want my old beaten up car with a dented bumper and door, especially since the parking lot at the University of Denver contains numerous BMW's and Audio's which would seem much more appealing. Nevertheless, after two hours of searching I could think of no other option. Right as I grabbed my phone to call the police to report my stolen vehicle I noticed that I had a new text message from my older brother. As I opened it up it read, "ha ha I got you good this year... It's parked over at my house! Happy April Fools!" Immediately I was extremely frustrated since I had spent the past two hours in pursuit of my car, which my brother had swiped the extra key from my parents' house in order to play such a trick on me. After my anger subsided, I could not help but laugh and begin to plot what I would do in order to get back at my brother next year. After all April first is the national day of prank jokes, which I whole heartedly experienced this year due with a little help from my brother.
